I’ll make a wish for you, and KNOW it will come true

18 Feb

As a father, I cannot help but live each day thinking about my girls.  This morning for chapel at CCA we watched Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story.  It is a great movie if you have not seen it before.  He is one of the greatest surgeons to have every practiced medicine, but he came through some astounding circumstances in order to get to that point.  There are two that made a big impact on me.  The first was when his wife, who was pregnant with twins, had some complications with the pregnancy, and they ended up losing the twins.  I can only imagine the pain that they must have felt, but I can know the faith that they had to cling to in order to get through it.  The second was when he performed the first ever separation of twins who were conjoined at the cranium.  It is incredibly emotional to see the reaction of the people who play the role of the parents when he comes out to tell them that things went great.  I think about my little girls and how unimaginably hard that must have been.  The title of this blog has to do with the fact that i wish the absolute best for my children, both Wee-wood 1 and Wee-wood 2, and which ever other Wee-woods will join our family in the future.  I know that God has a plan for them, and I will do everything in my power to make sure that the plan comes true.  I have no idea what God has planned for our children, but I do know that He will work it out for the good of those who love Him.  That could mean that one of my children will be a great leader or communicator,or it could mean that one of them works behind the scenes somewhere and is never publicly recognized.  Either way I know that God will be glorified as the plan is fulfilled in their lives.

Imma be talking bout some computer resources to keep the church connected. So I’ve found it’s incredibly hard to know what’s going on @ church. We’ve got big church and Sunday school and friends and nursery duty and praise team practice and when our kids are older they will have Sunday school lesson etc etc. But with that it’s hard to know what’s going on, in particular with the kids. And the last thing I want is another piece of paper that I can lose. But some great churches have begun using resources like blogs and Twitter to say hey this is what’s we did with your kids, highlighting the verses and keypoints. I could easily quiz the elder wee-wood on this! Also they frequently Twitter that they need help an instantly people know a need. I think we should do this, problem the majority of our congregation isn’t up with the times. Like a missionary recently said @our church Twitter can be a great resource for conferences and I would extend that to other stuff. I guess we could facebook it… I wish he-wood would be more proactive with technology and youth stuffs…maybe he will with some nudging.

Just open the door and you will see

My new elfa closet from the container store!!!! Our old closet was so claustrophobic and things weren’t well organized so we decided to get an elfa system. It’s so easy and worth the $$$. Many people questioned me about why not use Lowes or Home depot…well lets just say that even if those systems were as amazing as elfa that I’d STILL be at the store buying pieces and putting it together sometime next week.

See we made our layout online then tweeked it in the store then ate dinner and brought it home…minus the shoe shelfs on backorder bummer. But that night even with 2 kids we cleaned out the old, ripped it apart, filled holes, and put up the larger wall all before midnight! How sweet is that.

What’s Love got to do, got to do with it?

It is the little things in life that can make the biggest difference.  I am really looking forward to getting some new things to organize our closet.  You may think to yourself, “Seriously? You’re excited about that?”  And I would wholeheartedly answer, “YES!”  I am a bit of a neat freak to begin with, so that is one reason.  However, I know this will make She-wood so happy, and that makes me happy.  It has been a really busy day already.  We had to drop our car off this morning to have the bumper replaced because we had a bit of a accident when someone rear-ended us a few weeks ago.  They were not ready with a rental vehicle for us, so the Enterprise people had to drive us back home, wee-woods and all.  Then We were able to finish our takes this morning and get them sent off.  She-wood had to bring me to school to be here at 1:00pm, and she has been all across the country side while I have been here in class.   (Side note: the last I heard we still had no rental car.)  So, I am happy to be going to get some organization stuff this evening.  Being that it is Valentine’s week, I am happy to do something to make She-wood happy.  Who knows, maybe she will return the favor.  Take time to do something to make your loved ones feel special this week.  Do things to let them know that you love them very much.

You give and take away, You give and take away. My heart will choose to say, Lord blessed be Your name.

Okay She-wood had her little rant, so I guess I should have mine too.  I promise that it will be short.  My rant has to deal with a little subject called the Prosperity Gospel.  For those of you who don’t know what that term refers too the definition is this: a religious belief found among many Christians centered on the notion that God provides material prosperity for those he favors.  I really cannot stand that form of theology.  I would love for someone who preaches that kind of theology to show me in the Bible where God promises material possessions to those who follow after Him.  I’m pretty sure that the copy of the Bible I own says that there will be times when things go well, but there are also times when things will seem terrible from a human standpoint.

In Hebrews 11:33-38, we read, “who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. Women received back their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated—of whom the world was not worthy—wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.”

Yes there were times when the people of God were enforcing justice, obtaining promises, stopping the mouths of lions, escaping the sword, and even receiving loved ones back from the dead.  However, there were also times when some Christians were tortured, stoned with rocks, and even killed.  God never promised that if we decide to follow Him everything will always be fun, easy, and that you will get every material possession you ever wanted.  There will be times in our relationship with God when things are not easy, but it is during those times that God is doing the greatest work in our lives to make us more like Him.  It was during the darkest time in history that God was laying the foundation of our salvation as Jesus hung on the cross. (Thank you Andy Stanley)

Therefore, please don’t take heed of these people, and they are prevalent today, but rather know that God never promised us any material possession.  Just take a moment and read the New Testament.  Jesus was a homeless man while He was on earth.  He didn’t have any material possessions.  The Bible tells us in Job 1:21, “And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”  We can take nothing with us when we leave this earth, so what would be the point of amassing wealth.  Just remember that the next time you hear someone claiming that God will provide all the material things in the world if you follow Him.  According to the Bible, it simply isn’t true.

Okay rant time from She-wood. It’s about advertizing…mostly QuikTrip is that spelled right? Dunno it’s early, my eyes are pink, and well my students are glaring at me while I blog rant. They have this billboard with doughnuts it says “bosses love suck ups” okay yes PUH-LEASE teach the already slacker upcoming generation who feels owed by the world that sucking up gets you places. I know you know it’s a joke and yes it does sadly have some truth but still…don’t advertize it! 2nd their billboard with the cinnamon rolls that says “life’s too short for oatmeal” oh gee please make your life shorter by eating a cinnamon roll instead of some whole grains, oatmeal, or something. Goodness….

That being said anyone remember when twix’s slogan was one for me one for you?….now its two for me…and for a short time i believe it was “2 for me none for you” Ahhhh selfishness at it’s finest. And I think I’ll have it my way and just do it too.

Okay off to teach the next generation of “doctors”

Jesus, all this is for you

I commented on a blog about how youth ministry often centers around the youth minister and once he’s gone things suffer…seriously every ministry does that when the “leader” is the sole person in charge when they don’t share and what not. Sorry I’m so short I’m trying to entertain the Wee-woods and blog. But it talks about having small group leaders as the foundation for the ministry but from a small church perspective or even an unmotivated larger church…what if you don’t have people/parents willing to invest in the lives of the kids. I’m not trying to step on toes but it’s often hard to find people who are willing to cover sunday school or wednesday night things or one that the kids are comfortable around for chaperones….

i’m not trying to start fights with our church or even the original blog posted but sometimes the “one man show” is the best we can do at times…and i feel he points them to Christ. Just a reminder we have prayer meeting at 6:15pm wed nights if we need to pray over this if a controversy arises then talk…my bad He-Wood. I’ll tell my employer I’ll work summer and I’ll go flip burgers.
