Thank God for kids, there’s magic for a while

17 Jul

Lately it seems I’m exhausted with the Wee-woods. Then I realize its not them I’m exhausted with but that I’ve slacked or failed to embrace my role in raising them.

Profound statement time: Raising kids takes much more discipline on the parents aspect than on the children’s.

All day I’m constantly teaching our children something. Lately the theme has been to love your sister. After an extremely rough day and meltdown on behalf of the eldest Wee-wood a new verse went up on our wall. If you’ve been to our home you will see verses on regular paper written in marker with pictures drawn for some words. This really has helped my non-readers to memorize scripture. So on this particular day Matthew 19:19- (Honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself); went up on our wall.

Also He-wood has spent the last few days to take the girls to breakfast, they had mentioned they missed their daddy daughter dates…training time again on behalf of the adults- make time to do what the kids want.

So today I’m urging you to persevere and stick to what training your child needs even though its so difficult. (I remember having the ultimate potty training regressor but today we’ve conquered that mountain). I’m urging you to cultivate the relationship with your child no matter how old they are…turn off their video game or television and take them to eat someplace or sit down and do crafts together…or just ask what they are thinking. Yesterday I asked Wee-wood 1 what she was thinking and she said she was thinking of keeping her brother out of the Christmas tree this year! Precious…we hope Wee-wood 3 is here by Christmas, although we don’t expect he will be crawling by then.

Embrace the role God has designed for you as a parent. Realize things that improve your relationship and harmony within the home. For us our girls don’t need TV, I love when its not on and I can hear their singing. Yes, they might fuss for a second but then such creative play comes out that its worth a little fussing!

You’re my best friend…

2 Jul

I just wanted to take a few moments to express how much I love my wife.  It is not any special day or anything for us.  It’s just Monday.  I love her so much!  She is a great wife, and a wonderful friend.  She is my helpmate and supporter.  She is a fabulous mother to our children, and she is a throwdown cook and baker.  I am so thankful that God saw in his sovereignty to place us together in covenant marriage to spend our lives and all of our energy working to glorify him together.  I was reading Proverbs 5 this morning during my devotion time, ad I was so encouraged by verse 18 that says, “…rejoice in the wife of your youth…” and I simply wanted to do that today.

If you are married, you should rejoice in your spouse and thank God daily for him or her.  How long has it been since you expressed your thankfulness and gratitude to your spouse?
